Skill practice based on position: batting, bowling, wicket-keeping, fielding

I learned the hard way during a mixed-position practice match last season. I was batting and then had to keep wicket right after, without focusing separately on either. I ended up dropping easy catches and misreading deliveries because I hadn’t warmed up properly for each role. After that, I started scheduling position-specific drills: a session for batting footwork, another for bowling rhythm, and separate time for wicket-keeping. The difference in performance was night and day.

I’ve gone through that too. Early on, I treated every practice the same, but realized a bowler needs different muscle memory and endurance than a batter or fielder. I now rotate my sessions: explosive bowling drills on one day, quick reaction catching on another, and batting focus separately. This is what I use: https://assamtribune.com/article/how-to-train-like-a-pro-cricketer-fitness-diet-and-drills-1587645. It helped me figure out how to balance drills for all positions without burning out.

It’s funny how sometimes the tiniest adjustment — a step forward, a quicker release, or just watching the seam a bit longer — completely changes the outcome. Even when you think you’ve practiced enough, the unpredictable nature of the game keeps you on your toes, making every session feel like a mini gamble.
